Significant Demographics

While this doesn't mean your character has to come from one of these places, it's recommended they do.

Fenekku are perceived by many as just another demi-human variant, but they are in fact a unique creation of the machina city Jeth. Small and nimble, fenekku are very mobile just like their kitsune cousins, however they lack the same semi-aetherial qualities and come with a different set of strengths and weaknesses. They are exclusively found in the Tierran Desert, often found digging for machina relics among the endless dunes. No one knows why they are so fascinated with machina, but this fact has grabbed the attention of the church. The current state of relations between the church and the trade prince has prevented any aggressive measures by the church to purge the fenekku for their meddling with machina.

Physical Characteristics

Fenekku are like miniature humans, but with enormous ears and a small 3 foot tail. Their hair and tail color is always tan, however their tail tip and sometimes their ear tips can be dark brown. Fenekku are born with only one tail, and will not gain any more throughout their lifespan. Fenekku eye colors can range between brown, hazel, blue, green, and amber, with their eyes sometimes being slitted just like a fox. They are always slender with very little excess bulk, and have a height of 3'10" to 4'6". Their enormous ears are capable of picking up the faintest of sounds which all other races and even most animals would not be able to hear, and their ears also serve to dissipate heat. This does come with the downside of making them susceptible to the cold. Their ears are also able to pick up sound frequencies that are beyond the normal range of most races, and can even hear sounds which are a few feet underground. Their high metabolism makes it very hard for them to gain excess weight. Fenekku are highly adapted to life in the desert, and can survive without water far longer than other races. Their body is also adapted to extract every drop of water found in moist foods, making it possible for them to live without drinking any liquid water. A fenekku's lifespan is similar to that of an ordinary human, with most individuals only reaching 90 years of age maximum. They age at a far slower rate than humans, with the oldest individuals of the race only looking slightly more aged then a fenekku in their prime.

Mental Characteristics

Fenekku are almost identical to humans mentally, however they prefer to stick together as a group rather than divide unlike their human analogues. Their enhanced senses tend to influence their thoughts, and their ears and tail usually give a good indication of their current mood and thoughts. Fenekku do not possess primal desires, however they are prone to getting extremely startled by anything which surprises them. They have a strong instinct to run away from danger, a trait typically not found in humans.

Aetherial Characteristics

Fenekku possess similar physical traits compared to their kitsune cousins, however they lack the same semi-aetherial relationship. They are not hyper-sensitive to the aetherial field, and do not have the special gift of being able to precisely control aether. Despite not having the gifts associated with having an aetherial soul, fenekku are still sensitive to the absence of charged aether and may experience moderate to severe symptoms.

History

Fenekku are believed to have been the creation of the machina city Jeth in response to Exodia's creation of the kitsune. Unlike Exodia, Jeth possessed more technological knowledge than aetherial knowledge. This lead the city down a different path than the kitsune in regards to creating a new race. The result of this path was the Fenekku, a race which lacked the semi-aetherial qualities that the kitsune were known for, thus making them less than useful as spell detectors. Fenekku were also small, sharing a similar analogue as fennec foxes compared to regular foxes. Their small stature made them less than ideal as servants or laborers.

Very few fenekku were ever created, the city of Jeth stopped producing them after they were proven to not have a practical use. The fenekku which had already been created became extremely rare and sought after pets, often purchased and cared for by the Jethian Elite. After the cataclysm which destroyed human civilization, almost everyone left the desert and headed for greener lands. Some of the fenekku were left behind, and decided not to follow humanity out of the desert.

Fenekku were perfectly adapted for the Tierran Desert, allowing them to thrive and expand in numbers as the years go on. Most scholars believe they are just nomads which wander the endless sands, but others believe that the race has been secretly building a society away from prying eyes. The Holy Cardinal Pontificate has been alarmed by the fenekku's interest in machina, and has attempted to send inquisitors to the desert in the past to get them to repent.

Most of the inquisitors died from the extreme desert conditions, while the others were captured by the Tierran Principality and held for questioning. The church's movements in the area worsened relations between the desert nation and the northern kingdoms, and has forced the church to withdraw in order to preserve peace. It remains to be seen if the secrets of the fenekku are ever revealed.

Society

Fenekku are almost always seen wearing clothes which protect them from sandstorms and the intense heat of the desert. Their culture seems to somehow revolve around searching for machina in the desert. Not much else is known about their society.

Politics

Fenekku are not directly involved in any political affairs, but they have influenced relations between the Holy Cardinal Pontificate and the Tierran Principality. The fenekku's meddling with machina has caused the church to take notice, and the church has considered the merits of waging war against the trade prince in order to access the desert and purge the fenekku. Fortunately the church does not possess enough forces to outright defeat an entire country, and has since shelved any invasion plans for the time being.

Culture

Little is known about fenekku culture aside from their fascination with machina. Many scholars assume that they are somehow tribal in nature due to their nomadic disposition.

Magic

While fenekku are not hyper-sensitive to the aetherial field like kitsune are, their aetherial soul does make learning the aetherial arts easier. They are not known to pick up magic like other races, due to their prevalent interests in machina, however they are more than capable of becoming respectable mages.

Religion

Little is known of the fenekku, and it has been debated by scholars if they possess any kind of faith at all. For the time being, it is assumed that they do not have any particular faith and are more interested in other aspects of life.

Military

Fenekku do not have any kind of military, only scavengers which venture across the sand dunes of the Tierran Desert. They typically run rather than fight when faced with any kind of beast or monster, mainly due to their small size.

Economy

Fenekku occasionally venture into civilization to trade some of their findings for better equipment. Many of the machina specimens which scholars have had access to were purchased from fenekku.

Technology

Most scholars assume that fenekku do not possess a high level of technology due to their seemingly nomadic disposition, however little is known of the race and there could very well be more than what scholars have been led to believe. The fenekku's fascination with machina has led to more questions than answers regarding the topic.

Assorted Info

  • Fenekku often use goggles, since it allows them to see during sandstorms and makes desert life easier.
