Significant Demographics

While this doesn't mean your character has to come from one of these places, it's recommended they do.

Centaurs are very much a nomadic race, refusing to settle and always being on the move. While the vast majority of centaurs still follow this ancient tradition, a kingdom has arisen in the north as a stronghold for the more civilized among the race. As masters of mobility and travel, most centaurs have a gift for professions which involve some degree of adventuring or trailblazing.

Physical Characteristics

Consisting of a horse body and a human torso and head, centaurs are perhaps the most unusual race. The sharp transition between the two halves of their body suggest that the race was created by unnatural means. Centaurs have the stamina of a horse and the intellect of a human, they are omnivores like humans but require a substantially greater intake of food. Their horse body has a typical coat, which shares the same color as their hair. In fact their hair may have mottled colors just like their coat, which comes in the same colors as human hair with the addition of white. Their torso and upper body has the same skin color range as humans, eye colors are also the same range as humans. Centaurs are the only sentient race to posses 4 legs and 2 arms, giving them unprecedented mobility at the cost of accessibility due to their large size and inability to climb vertically. They have the potential for far more muscle mass then humans and their upper torso may have a very muscular appearance. Centaurs also have a greatly increased lung capacity, however their voice tone is the same as humans due to differences in their vocal cords. They require more exercise then a human to stay healthy due to their large size.

Mental Characteristics

Centaurs are more or less the same as humans psychologically, however they due tend to prefer lifestyles where they are constantly on the move. Staying in one place is mentally undesirable, especially since their large bodies need more exercise than other races to stay healthy. The few centaurs who have chosen a more civilized lifestyle usually become adventurers, trailblazers, couriers, diplomats, or really any occupation which favors travel.

History

The centaur race was believed to have originated in a time long before the rise of Exodia, back when Celestia still resided within the ancient forest. She had a fondness for human rangers which loved the forest, and she would give them her blessing. They were transformed into centaurs at their own desire, and would live in the forest forever after. As centaur numbers grew, they started developing a nomadic lifestyle in order to avoid depleting resources in an area like the Exodians had done.

There eventually came a time when a centaur tribe would settle in the northern reaches of the continent, and would form the Kingdom of Hammerford. As humanity expanded their reach further into previously unoccupied territory, the centaur race as a whole was forced to recede further north. Many centaurs collected in the newly founded Kingdom of Hammerford, and decided to settle there and end their nomadic traditions. The kingdom has grown to a considerable size, and stands today as a testament to the centaur race's ability to adapt to changing times.

Many centaur tribes still roam the Exodius Continent as nomadic herds, their their numbers are only half of what they once were as many centaurs continue to consolidate in various civilizations.

Society

There are two different flavors of centaur society, each one a result of centaurs fulfilling their desire to explore in a distinct way.

Nomads

A culture that stretches back to the origins of the race, the nomadic centaur tribes that roam the wilderness are a simple and straightforward people. They are only armed with primitive tools, crude leather clothing, and their vast knowledge of the landscape. They move from place to place, usually staying away from the cities and farmland of most civilizations. They forage and hunt, the latter of which is very easy do to their incredible speed. While this life is simple and fulfilling to most centaur, some have a desire for much more.

Adventurers

Some centaurs prefer a less primitive lifestyle, and have sought out other civilizations which they can call home. Some became emissaries, and others became trailblazers and trackers, but most have undertaken the fulfilling occupation of becoming an adventurer. They get paid for completing contracts from a variety of clients, and may even have a building they call home. Some have managed to overcome their aversion to superficial concepts and obtain a higher level of education, allowing them to go out on archaeological digs and other occupations which require an extensive amount of knowledge.

Politics

The Kingdom of Hammerford is a peaceful nation unconcerned with inciting conflict, however in the past they have been the target of many raids and minor skirmishes.

Military (1850 AE)

The average centaur is skilled at defending themselves, a throwback to their traditional lifestyle as nomads and adventurers. With a strong connection to tradition, most centaurs employ traditional weaponry such as bows, spears, halberds, and swords as their weapon of choice. However, the Kingdom of Hammerford is a fledgling nation, and the centaur race as a whole is new to the idea of organized warfare on a national scale. The Hammerford military relies on the innate skills of recruits rather than formal training, and are still in the process of standardizing their military tactics. In this regard, Hammerford has relied heavily on nomadic tribe tactics used in ages past to settle conflicts, and have yet to be tested against a proper military such as the one found in the Kingdom of Rivera.
