Physical Characteristics
Consisting of a horse body and a human torso and head, centaurs are perhaps the most unusual race. The sharp transition between the two halves of their body suggest that the race was created by unnatural means. Centaurs have the stamina of a horse and the intellect of a standard human, they are omnivores like humans but require a substantially greater intake of food. Their horse body has a typical coat, which shares the same color as their hair. In fact their hair may have mottled colors just like their coat, which comes in the same colors as human hair with the addition of white. Their torso and upper body has the same skin color range as humans, eye colors are also the same range as humans. Centaurs are the only sentient race to posses 4 legs and 2 arms, giving them unprecedented mobility at the cost of accessibility due to their large size and inability to climb vertically. They have far more muscle mass then humans and their upper torso will usually have a very muscular appearance. Centaurs also have a greatly increased lung capacity, however their voice tone is the same as humans due to differences in their vocal cords.
Mental Characteristics
Centaurs are more or less the same as humans psychologically, however they due tend to prefer lifestyles where they are constantly on the move. Staying in one place is mentally undesirable, especially since their large bodies need more exercise than other races to stay healthy. The few centaurs who have chosen a more civilized lifestyle usually become adventurers, trailblazers, couriers, diplomats, or really any occupation which favors travel.
History
The origins of the centaur race are largely a mystery, however many different sources claim that they were the result of a blessing that Celestia gave to human rangers that were in love with nature. It has been confirmed that centaurs have always been nomadic and at no point have ever founded a civilization of their own. Centaur tribes originally roamed a vast portion of the Exodian Continent, but as other civilizations continued to expand they were forced to recede further into the Arcadian Wilderness and Cascadian Mountains.
Society
There are two different flavors of centaur society, each one a result of centaurs fulfilling their desire to explore in a distinct way.
Nomads
A culture that stretches back to the origins of the race, the nomadic centaur tribes that roam the wilderness are a simple and straightforward people. They are only armed with primitive tools, crude leather clothing, and their vast knowledge of the landscape. They move from place to place, usually staying away from the cities and farmland of most civilizations. They forage and hunt, the latter of which is very easy do to their incredible speed. While this life is simple and fulfilling to most centaur, some have a desire for much more.
Adventurers
Some centaurs prefer a less primitive lifestyle, and have sought out other civilizations which they can call home. Some became emissaries, and others became trailblazers and trackers, but most have undertaken the fulfilling occupation of becoming an adventurer. They get paid for completing contracts from a variety of clients, and may even have a building they call home. Some have managed to overcome their aversion to superficial concepts and obtain a higher level of education, allowing them to go out on archaeological digs and other occupations which require an extensive amount of knowledge.
Politics
While not particularly interested in politics themselves, centaurs have played a significant role in the political transactions of other nations. Usually in the form of emissaries and messengers, these brave centaurs take up the flag of their host nation and conduct diplomacy. Centaurs used to fill a niche area of politics in the past when many civilizations attempted to conduct diplomacy with the wildkin, but those days have gone and the wildkin remain unwilling to accommodate the requests of nations.
